Iran Shows Off Military During Annual War Games

The country’s elite Revolutionary Guards has begun its annual, large-scale war games in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which lies in the Persian Gulf between Oman and Iran.

According to an AP report today, naval, air and ground units from the controversial Revolutionary Guards are set to participate in the three-day games named “The Great Prophet”–a reference to the Prophet Mohammad.

These war games are held annually by Iran in the Persian Gulf. The location is highly strategic because a reported 40 percent of the world’s oil and energy supplies pass through the waterway, and many believe that if Israel or Iran were to launch military strikes against the country, Iran could potentially shut down the waterway.
